Which symptoms

Study problems

All kinds of study problems are common among students, since this is a transitional phase with a lot of challenges. For anyone, bit even more so for Internationals who have to deal with cutural shock and creating a new social life. Psychological problems are not uncommon in this period. Rathjer deal with them sooner then later, before psychological symptoms grow into persistent disorders.

Psychological problems common in this period of life are: fear of failure, perfectionism, procrastination, motivational problems, study choice problems, over-stressing or burn-out.

As many other international students that need to leave their home country, families and friends, moving and studying abroad can be a stressful experience, even after years. The excitement of the cultural shock slowly fades away and the expats find themselves under a lot of pressure to integrate, to speak the language, to socialize and to forge contacts. This can be stressful and sometimes overwhelming.

In addition, you can experience all kinds of problems related to student life and this phase of life (in which so much changes and happens), such as: homesickness, adjustment problems, difficulty with the detachment from or establishing a different relationship with your parents, mourning, caring for a neighbor, difficulty in adapting to a different culture, loneliness, social problems, suffering trauma (for example sexual, dying, hazing), identity problems (sexuality, gender, self-image).
